Mikey Musumeci is widely regarded as one of the best jiu-jitsu athletes of today. The young athlete has built himself a decorated resume, with multiple World, European, and National championships under his belt, as well as a gold medal from Pans, No-Gi Worlds, and the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pro.
Noteworthy, too, is Musumeci’s ability to excel in multiple divisions. As a black belt, he’s won major events competing in divisions as low as 57kg to as high as 70kg, and just weeks ago, he made waves by entering the absolute division at Euros, making it to the quarter-finals before being (narrowly) stopped by Mahamed Aly.
Now, Caio Terra, who Musumeci competes under, is putting up an eyebrow-raising offer to prove Musumeci’s abilities, even against competitors far heavier than him. Terra has offered $10k of his own money to any high-level black belt who will also put up $10k of their own money to try to beat Musumeci. The challenge leaves a lot of money at stake, but it’s a risk that Terra is willing to take.
Terra posted the challenge on his social media earlier today:
“It’s not so much faith or belief in Mikey but the reality. There is no one in his division or the division above him that he hasn’t beaten. I am confident he can beat anyone, and to make it a little more exciting I offered 10k of my own money Vs $10k of anyone else’s money.
If you have the money, are a top level black belt and want to accept, let’s do this! Either way the fans will win and it will be money well spent.“
Jiu-jitsu fans are having fun scheming up who might be a worthwhile opponent for the challenge. We’ll provide updates if the $20k dare develops beyond the internet and becomes reality.
