Buchecha To Make MMA Debut Against Ji Won Kang In April ONE Championship Event

Record-setting IBJJF World Champion Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida officially has his first MMA fight lined up, according to a report from Combate that was confirmed by Sherdog.

Buchecha will be making his professional MMA debut at ONE Championship against South Korean fighter Ji Won Kang. Their fight is scheduled for April 7 in Singapore, one month after Kang is currently scheduled to take on Amir Aliakbari.

Buchecha, who earned a Guinness World Record for winning the most gold world championship medals in jiu-jitsu, announced last year that he would be retiring from gi jiu-jitsu and focusing on building an MMA career. Days later, he was revealed to have signed with ONE Championship. It was initially announced that he would be facing Senegalese wrestler Oumar Kane in his debut, but that matchup was later canceled, and Buchecha will now be taking on Kang for his first-ever MMA fight.

Kang has been fighting professionally since 2018 and is currently undefeated, winning all four of his fights via KO or TKO. His most recent fight, which took place at the beginning of February, served as his ONE Championship debut, and he made quite the impression by getting a TKO victory against Mehdi Barghi.

Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida vs. Ji Won Kang will take place at ONE Championship on Wednesday, April 7.
