Brown belt and absolute black: check out the photos from the Brazilian BJJ Nationals

Besides the absolute black belt contest, where CheckMat duo Antonio Carlos “Cara de Sapato” and Nivaldo Oliveira made it through to the final, this Saturday also saw the brown belts take to combat at the Brazilian Nationals, held at Grajaú Country Club in Rio de Janeiro.

At brown belt, the aces who’ve stood out at prior belts upheld the standard and made it onto the podium—a sign that, in the near future, they’ll be wreaking havoc in the black belt division. Among the champions (click here for the full list), Ronaldo Cândico of Atos won at featherweight; Victor Genovesi of Alliance, son of Master Alexandre Paiva, won at feather; and superchamp João Gabriel of Soul Fighters took the super heavyweight division.

GRACIEMAG photo editor Gustavo Aragão saw it all up close and sent in a selection of the finest photos he took on the day.
