Damon Martin of Foxsports.com has reported that UFC fighter and co-host of the hit podcast The Fighter and The Kid, Brendan Schaub, will be dropping from Heavyweight to Light Heavyweight. Schaub announced his decision on his podcast this past week. After starting his UFC career with a 4-1 record, Schaub has gone 2-4 in the Octagon with a first-round TKO loss to Travis Browne on December 6, 2014 at UFC 181.
“As far as the fight game goes, I’ve dealt with some injuries as far as my neck, went back into training, it gave me some issues so we decided to take a little more time off,” Schaub said.
“The plan is 205 and I will fight in 2015 at 205, light heavyweight.”
In addition to dropping a weight class, Martin has also reported that Schaub will be trying out new coaches. Schaub has previously trained Jiu Jitsu under the guidance of Rener and Ryron Gracie and competed against Cyborg Abreu at Metamoris 2. He did not mention if the Gracie brothers would be retained as his BJJ coaches.
Joe Rogan spoke to Brendan Schaub about his career path after his loss to Travis Browne on an episode of The Fighter and The Kid that went viral.
