In the prelims of tonight’s UFC 261, middleweight and BJJ black belt Brendan Allen proved that leg locks do work in the last few seconds of round one against Karl Roberson.
Initially, it looked like Roberson might be the only one to go for the submission, as he transitioned from half-guard to elevate Allen and expose the heel. Allen, though, took advantage of Roberson’s exposed leg and jumped on a heel hook. Allen’s glove slipped, and he then appeared to transition to a straight ankle lock to finish the submission and get the tap at 4:55 into the first round.
The submission was officially declared a heel hook, and Allen increased his record to 16-4, with nine of those wins coming by way of submission.
