It’s another day in the dramatic build-up to ADCC 2019 as it’s just been revealed that Keenan Cornelius is moving up in weight to the -99kg division for this year’s finals. He’s managed to arrange this by switching places with the North American Trials winner for that category, Mason Fowler, who drops down in weight to -88kg.
He’s following in the footsteps of his old foe and the person who beat him to gold in the last ADCC, Gordon Ryan, as he too decided to gain some extra size ready for this year’s tournament. After consecutive silver medals in the last two editions of the ADCC finals, it’ll be interesting to see if Keenan Cornelius can finally add the coveted title of ADCC champion to his resume in his fourth attempt.
He’ll have to overcome potentially his stiffest competition to date to achieve this however, he joins a stacked division containing not only Ryan, but also some living legends like Romula Barral and Vinny Magalhaes. Fans of the tournament will no doubt be waiting with baited breath for a repeat of last year where Keenan and Ryan both impressed on their way to stand across from each other in the final.
