Several days ago, Georges St-Pierre announced that he is coming back to competition – in the form of a submission grappling match!
Here is why he opted for submission grappling:
First, I’m always in shape, I’m in great shape.
Competing in Jiu-Jitsu is very serious competition, but the risks are minimal.
For someone in my position, it’s great – I’m 42 years old…I felt at the end when I retired, I was training, but I needed something.
I liked the kick of competition, I’d like to get it back, and I’d like to feel the adrenaline again. It’s also an avenue from fighters who still want to compete and make money and have fun with the fans and the family of the UFC.
He also has competition experience:
I competed in wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu before.
But this is probably a different experience…
And the level of competition is elite, the best of the best, and I’m glad to be a part of it.
And, well, it seems that GSP has found his match – Demian Maia!
Maia confirmed that the match – scheduled for December this year, for the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6 event – will take place:
Every now and then, something comes up that still does really motivate you.
Grappling Georges St-Pierre will be a huge challenge & great motivation.
You, GSP, are one of the greatest competitors ever, whom I respect a lot.I’m game! Looking forward to competing at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational.
