Olympic gold medalist boxer Claressa Shields officially has a date for her professional MMA debut, and we’ll be seeing her test herself in the PFL on June 10.
The news first came from an interview on Good Morning America.
.@Claressashields is the No. 1 women’s boxer in the world and about to make her MMA debut, but the 2-time Olympic gold medalist says sexism is still a major issue within sport: “It’s mind-boggling to me … I want us to have equal pay, equal opportunity.” @michaelstrahan pic.twitter.com/cZOWoA2Ogu

Shields’ opponent hasn’t been announced yet. Her fight structure will be one-off bouts, and at least for now, she won’t be competing in the PFL’s tournaments.
Shields signed with the PFL near the end of 2020, expanding upon a career that saw her simultaneously hold titles in the WBC, WBA, IBF, and IBO. She’s widely considered to be the best pound-for-pound female boxer and has recently spoken about her jiu-jitsu journey as she’s transitioned to MMA.
