Black Belt Rodolfo Vieira Wins By Submission in UFC Main Card Debut

The aced has aced his big debut. Jiu-jitsu’s Rodolfo Vieria, the world champion ground gamer and ADCC champ who signed with the UFC in June 2019, made his main stage MMA debut tonight in Uruguay in dominating fashion, winning by second round submission over opponent Oskar Piechota.

Though Vieira had originally anticipated fighting on the undercard, he discovered at this week’s press day “face off” that the match had been moved into the spotlight. The pressure of a serious audience was no problem for the longtime competitor, however. Vieira, displaying the same aggressive takedown game and confident control on the mats he has during years of BJJ competition on international stages, pressured into Piechota immediately. Piechota seemed game at first, but left room in the second round for Vieira to lock in a head and arm triangle. Everything after that was, if you’re a jiu-jitsu fan, to be expected.

The position locked into place from top mount, with Piechota tapping seconds later:

This win brings Vieira’s professional fight record to 6-0. We’re looking forward to seeing this mat monster climb through the ranks at middleweight.
