Font of BJJ knowledge and rashguard model John Danaher broke down the philosophy and concepts of Jiu-Jitsu alongside Gordon Ryan and Bernardo Faria in a new video released on BJJ Fanatics.
“What we’re trying to do is explain Jiu-Jitsu as a system of combat,” Danaher said. Over the 25 minutes, Ryan and Faria perform various moves and recreate grappling scenarios while Danaher pontificates with his hypnotic kiwi accent. The trio work to reveal why BJJ developed into the system it is today, the ideas behind it and where innovation comes from. Many of the ideas discussed in the video, such as BJJ being used to limit the potential for explosive movement from a stronger opponent, mirror Danaher’s conversation with Joe Rogan last year.
While very technical, the topics are discussed in such a way as to give meaningful insight into BJJ to anyone regardless of skill level. It also serves as a crash course into what BJJ is for any confused family member that still thinks you do Karate. Definitely worth a watch!
