A jiu-jitsu black-belt and MMA fighter with a career full of triumphs, Bibiano Fernandes has three IBJJF world championships and two Dream FC belts, and is the current bantamweight king of One Championship. He got where he is by developing a range of positions to bring fear to the heart of any guard player.
Today he shares with Graciemag readers one of his favorite ways to pass the De la Riva guard and end up glued to an opponent’s back. In the following video, Bibiano shows how you must place yourself to start, goes over the right way to bear down with your hip when passing, and teaches how to perfectly sink your hand in the collar. This is one of the maneuvers he used most often in his competitive jiu-jitsu career. The secret, he says, is patience first of all, followed by an execution without losing the spaces.
