Could Mackenzie Dern be bigger than Ronda Rousey?
Former UFC Lightweight Champion and current Bellator fighter Benson Henderson thinks so.
In an interview on Monday with The MMA Hour (embedded below), Henderson, who cornered Dern for her MMA debut at Legacy Fighting Championship 58, told host Ariel Helwani that the multiple-time World gold medalist would be bigger than Ronda Rousey . . . that is, before Rousey suffered her first loss at the hands of Holly Holm.
“She will be bigger than Ronda Rousey before Ronda Rousey lost. She’s going to be huge. She’s going to be big. She has an excellent work ethic.”
Benson, himself a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, went on to laud Dern for her accomplishments and superior ground game.
“Go look her up, she is a multiple-time jiu-jitsu world champion. She’s won ADCC. She’s won Abu Dhabi. She’s won Worlds. She’s the current No. 1 ranked female jiu-jitsu practitioner on the planet. She has an amazing work ethic. She’s an amazing athlete. She definitely needs to work on her MMA skills, but her ground game in phenomenal. Any women on the planet goes to the ground with Mackenzie and Mackenzie is going to tap her, or dominate her like she did her first opponent.”
What do you, the Jiu-Jitsu Times readers, think? Does Mackenzie Dern have what it takes to achieve the type of dominance Rousey achieved before her one-sided loss to Holm? Remember that none of Rousey’s matches have gone to a decision.
