AKRON, OHIO- Bellator bantamweight Isaiah Chapman was killed Tuesday night after being shot multiple times outside his home.
Reported Wednesday in the Akron Beacon Journal, police responded to a call of multiple shots fired at 9:40 p.m. local time. Finding Chapman on the scene, the 30 year old was lying in the streets with numerous gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead after being transported to Summa Akron City Hospital.
Chapman was later identified as the victim by his family in a social media post, and a second close source gave a statement to MMA Junkie.
As of the writing of this article, the medical examiner has not identified the body as Chapman and the shooter is still at large.
A fighter since 2012, Chapman last fought a losing effort against former King of the Cage Bantamweight champion Patchy Mix in October of 2019. This left him a professional record of 9-4.
A GoFundMe has been set up to assist his Family with funeral expenses and other needs during this time. Chapman is survived by his two daughters Faith and Aubrey, and his son Isaac.
