Belfort’s expectations for the fight of his life

There isn’t long to go till one of the most heavily-anticipated fights of all times, between Vitor Belfort and Anderson Silva, on February 5 in Las Vegas (watch the UFC 126 promo video below). Belfort was featured in the last issue of GRACIEMAG.

While the last time Anderson appeared in the octagon was against Chael Sonnen on August 7, 2010, Vitor hasn’t fought since September 2009, after which he underwent surgery.

“Training, training, and training. The more we bleed in daily training, the less we bleed in battle. The hard part is training properly. It’s not enough that you train a lot, you have to train properly,” Belfort told reporter Nalty Jr.

The “Phenom” knows things won’t be easy, which is why he is drumming up a number of plans to see him through in the octagon.

“Having just one strategy is wrong. It’s not about having a strategy, but a combination of techniques and strategies. Often, the plan we had at the start of the fight has to change in the second round. Anyone who only has one strategy will be left without options. If things don’t go according to plan, he’ll lose the fight,” says Vitor, who is unconcerned should the crowd be against him come the fifth.

“Man, I think he’s the favorite. I have to do my part, I have to be honest. I think the fans like that, they feel it and admire it. Both Anderson and I want to put on the best show we can for everybody. They’ll know who to cheer for.”
