Damien Anderson is one of B-Team‘s top submission grappling athletes. However, he is also one of those who chose to transition to mixed martial arts (MMA) as well – and he has achieved huge success in his first fight already!
Anderson had his amateur MMA debut on Fury FC 73 on January 29 (2023)… And he had quite a challenging opponent for his first fight.
Namely, he was set to fight against Cody Ortiz, who is a veteran in amateur MMA – as he has had eight fights so far.
Nevertheless, Anderson was comfortable exchanging strikes on the feet. He skillfully evaded a couple of punches, and even dropped Ortiz with a cross of his own.
At one point, Ortiz went for a clinch, and Anderson took the opportunity to get the fight to the ground. This was a big mistake, as he’s a much less experienced grappler than his opponent is – which Anderson took advantage of.
He went behind Ortiz in a quick fashion and delivered vicious ground and pound strikes, which prompted the referee to halt the fight in the very first round.
Check out the beautiful cross, as well as the ground and pound finish by Anderson, on the video below:
