The untimely passing of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov due to COVID-19 complications was a tragedy felt around the MMA world, and of course, no one felt it quite so much as the Nurmagomedov family. The bond between Abdulmanap and his son, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, was a special one, as the father-son duo also shared a coach-student relationship. Abdulmanap played a crucial role in his son’s MMA career, and there were concerns that Khabib would never fight again following his father’s passing.
We soon learned that this wouldn’t be the case, however, as Khabib agreed to fight Justin Gaethje in the main event of this weekend’s UFC 254. The evening will no doubt be an emotional one for Khabib, who will be hoping to improve his flawless record to 29-0.
