Andre Galvao: ‘The Best Way To Market Your Team Is To Show Results In Tournaments’

Andre Galvao is one of the biggest names in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and he believes in the importance of competition.

Why wouldn’t he? Not only does he lead one of the biggest teams in competitive jiu-jitsu, but he describes himself as someone who was born to compete.

“I think competition, it’s my life,” he told Jiu-Jitsu World League in a video interview.  “Since I started training jiu-jitsu, I compete, and I love it. I born as a competitor. I always like to the first one in everything that I do.”

That is not to say he thinks there is anything wrong with people who don’t want to compete. However, there are advantages to going toe-to-toe with other schools’ students on the mats.

If you don’t compete, it’s fine. But I believe that, when you compete and let’s say you lose, you want to fix your game. So for sure, I think the competitor, he develop better skills and new skills than more than a guy who trains jiu-jitsu just daily.

It’s not only the students who are helped by competition, either; it’s the gym.

Since we create Atos Jiu-Jitsu, we thought a lot about how we would like to show our work to the world. And I think the best way to market your team is to show results in tournaments.

You can check out the rest of Andre Galvao’s interview with Jiu Jitsu World League in the video above.
