Leandro Lo was posthumously inducted into the IBJJF Hall of Fame, at the 2023 IBJJF World Championship…
And it made a lot of athletes and spectators emotional – including Andre Galvao.
Galvao shared his words of appreciation for Leandro’s Hall of Fame induction in a recent conversation with the IBJJF:
When the screen was playing there [during the Hall Of Fame induction], like his fights and all that, and I look around – I didn’t see him.
It was weird. It was very weird to be at Worlds in the Pyramid and not seeing Leandro Lo, because he was a unique masterpiece of Jiu-Jitsu.And there were so many fights that we watched, that he made incredible things happen in.
And, definitely seeing him getting inducted to the Hall of Fame gave me a lot of joy.In my heart was a bittersweet honor. But, at the same time, we have to understand that there are some things that are not under our control, unfortunately, in life.
But [we need to] honor him. Giving him this Hall of Fame was under our control and we did it.
Andre emphasized that Leandro Lo was different than anyone else and that he changed the entire Jiu-Jitsu community:
He’s going to be eternal. Leandro is going to be eternal in this sport, definitely.
Like, he changed the sport. He changed the entire community. The way he fought…He’s a legend and one of the greatest ever, for sure.
He was out of the box, was a different level than anyone else.
And if he was there, at Worlds, I don’t know what could happen.
