Another ADCC 2013 star is aout injured. Bernardo Faria injured the meniscus in his left knee during training in New York. Despite not needing surgery, Faria is out of the event in Beijing, next October 19-20.
His place in the +99kg division will be filled by another Alliance star. Two-time world champion Leo Leite was surprised by the invitation, but accepted the challenge.
“I’m happy because when I became world champion for the first time in 1999 I received an invitation, but unfortunately I could not go because of an injury. In the years after that I was always serving the Brazilian judo national team. Lucky me that I was called again this year when I’m just training without the gi, “said Leite, now mainly devoted to MMA.
The champion also commented on the strategy he wants to use in Beijing:
“I hope that judo takedowns help me. In MMA training they have helped me a lot, because everyone is accustomed to wrestling and I use a lot of leg movements.”
