The UK representatives have had some very tough match-ups in their opening rounds at ADCC 2019 and it’s led to some early entries as they’ve gone 0-3 leading up to this fight. Ross Nicholls and Ben Dyson went out to their respective division’s top contenders and Thomas Halpin lost by decision shortly before this fight started.
Ffion is a strong challenger and a surefire medalist in a smaller division and looks poised to mount a real challenge in her debut at ADCC 2019. Yuasa represented a difficult challenge as a four-time IBJJF world champion but she proved no match for Ffion in the opening round. Ffion racked up a huge amount of points en route to a decisive victory over Yuasa, finishing the match at 12-0 by the time it ended.
After Beatriz Mesquita made short work of her first opponent, Jenna Bishop, she waits for Ffion in the Semi-Finals. The fans and Ffion have been rewarded by the BJJ gods with a dynamite rematch of Ffion’s only loss this year. Mesquita bested Ffion in the finals of the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pro 2019 in a phenomenal match. As Besquita is the returning champion, it almost feels like this match should be the final.
