Getting Caught in Kimura when Passing Guard – Nick Albin

In this video I show some basic kimura defense from a BJJ match that one of the Blue Belt viewers shared with me.

During the match I try to share some concepts as well as show some specific defense. But if you watch the video. At least take away that you need to play compact when in a top position trying to pass. Especially inside the Guard.

When you do Brazilian Jiu-jitsu being on top in the guard position is not a good position. Technically speaking, you are in the defensive, not offensive position.

This is important to remember. Because a lot of people that do BJJ feel good when they are there. I’ve seen this a lot with BJJ White Belts. I mean there is nothing wrong with feeling comfortable breaking the guard. But you definitely don’t want to fall asleep at the wheel and allow your opponent to take advantage of a mistake.

In the video Rob kept reaching out and letting his arms get too far away from his body. The biggest piece of advice I can share with him based on this match is to keep the arms in tight and don’t let the arms get away from the body.
