Be Smart With BJJ Training – More Is Not Always Better

Most people think the secret to getting better at BJJ is simply training more. That the only thing they lack is some extra rolling or mat time.

While more mat time definitely helps someone with Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. What some people, like myself, have discovered is that there can be too much of a good thing. And you need to be smart with your BJJ training so that you avoid overtraining.

As I share in this video. Back in 2010 when I had the chance to finally do BJJ full time without any other distractions. I started training like a mad man.

I’d often train twice a day and once a day on the weekends. So I’d go 7 days a week with no rest.

Eventually I started to become run down from this super high volume of training. And even worse was the fact that the payoff for more than doubling of my training volume was minimal.

I touched on this subject because I was asked a question from a viewer Lee who says he’s training BJJ 6 days a week right now. But he says he felt better when he was only training 3 days a week. He feels the need to continue the 6 days a week to better his Brazilian Jiujitsu but is wondering if he should drop back down.

Hopefully if you’re having the same question this video will help you.
