They were bloodied, bruised, and swollen after their straw weight title fight in the co-main event of UFC 248, but thankfully, Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk are both out of the hospital and recovering just fine.
Zhang’s manager Brian Butler shared on Instagram that the fighter was resting in her room with no significant injuries following the fight, and MMA Fighting reports that Jedrzejczyk left the hospital “under her own power” after all of her tests came back clear.
The news may be surprising to those who saw Zhang and Jedrzejczyk’s unforgettable fight over the weekend. The athletes went the distance in a non-stop battle of technique and ferocity, and by the time they’d walked out of the Octagon, Zhang’s face was covered in blood, and Jedrzejczyk had a hematoma on her forehead that left her unrecognizable. While the Nevada State Athletic Commission will likely put medical suspensions on both fighters, it’s a relief to know that whatever injuries they have likely won’t impact their lives too seriously.
