Intention is everything. In honor of International Women’s Day, the Women Empowered collective at Gracie University released a unique music video covering Beyoncé Knowles’ “Single Ladies” track. The famous line “If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it” is replaced with “If you like it then you shouldn’t put your hands on it.” The point of the message is for women to establish and enforce boundaries, using jiu-jitsu principles as a foundational component for developing the confidence to stand up to unwanted physical touching. In honor of #InternationalWomensDay we release this reminder that women’s bodies aren’t objects to be touched, grabbed, or controlled. They belong to us, and we will gladly let you know if we want you to touch them. We love that @womenempoweredgjj helps us all to enforce boundaries regarding our personal space or safety. And yes, men, in case you are in disbelief, this stuff actually happens to women. Like, every women. ever. starting at an early age.
