The blockbuster Who’s Number One Championships scheduled for late September are beginning to take shape. The two-day event will feature five eight-person brackets consisting of the best no-gi grapplers in the world. FloGrappling has announced the full bracket for the women’s 115-pound division; view that bracket below.
Several names in this bracket immediately stand out. Unity Jiu-Jitsu’s Mayssa Bastos is likely the odds-on favorite to take home the gold, as she holds recent wins over fellow competitors Grace Gundrum and Jessa Khan. A gi and no-gi world champion, Bastos’ guard is a puzzle that few women have been able to solve.
The bracket also sees the return of Tammi Musumeci. A 2019 IBJJF world champion and an ADCC bronze medalist, Musumeci has been away from competition for over a year, but she is immediately one of the top competitors in this division.
Despite a 2020 loss at Who’s Number One to Bastos, Grace Gundrum should be considered a dark horse to win the division. Still just 19-years old, the 10th Planet product is a no-gi submission-only specialist and is widely thought of as one of the most promising young black belts in the sport. She last competed at Who’s Number One, securing an armbar finish of fellow tournament participant Alex Nguyen.
