Brown belt rising star William Tackett faced off against multiple-time black belt Pans champion Fellipe Andrew in the main event of 3rd Coast Grappling 5. Fans expected an action-packed match, but their bout was as quick as it was exciting.
The big finale capped off 3CG’s last big event of the year after a night of action that also saw Kody Steele defeat Edwin Najmi in a close, nonstop match earlier in the night. The promotion went big for their final event of 2020, bringing in Hollywood actor and BJJ black belt Sean Patrick Flanery for commentary and hosting a no-time-limit sub-only match between Damien Anderson and Andrew Tackett, the latter of which took home the victory after nearly an hour on the mats.
After some hand-fighting, Tackett ducked under Andrew’s arm and body-locked him around the back, dragging him to the ground. Andrew managed to get out of immediate danger and went for one of Tackett’s legs, but Tackett then went for a heel hook of his own. Andrew focused on defense to work himself out of immediate danger, but Tackett quickly found an opportunity for another inside heel hook. There was no escape, and Andrew tapped out after 58 seconds in regulation.
