Rio native Murilo Bustamante, 43, has become accustomed to posing for photos with fans at every Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in California.
There are several reasons for the continuous popularity of the Jiu-Jitsu teacher, who hasn’t fought MMA since 2007.
Murilo has fought MMA since 1991, building a solid record of 22 fights (14 wins) and only once has he lost a fight by anything but judges’ decision, due an unintentional head butt from Dan Henderson in 2003, at Pride FC.
A real reason is the Carlson Gracie black belt’s technique, in evidence in such fights as this one, at a 1997 MMA event in Rio de Janeiro, against then-feared Jerry Bohlander.
Here’s to the Jiu-Jitsu teacher having a worthy farewell match, whenever he decides to hang up his gloves – something they didn’t even wear at the time of this battle. Check it out!
