Over the weekend, the WOCS promotion wrapped up the 2011 season with a first-rate event, in the Barra da Tijuca section of Rio de Janeiro.
William Patolino (Pejor) was hard-hitting and determined in beating Roger Berger by TKO in the first round. The undefeated welterweight Patolino has begun to show signs he’s ready to step up the competition.
Following Patolino’s performance, Thiago Marreta of TFT put on another of the better performances at WOCS 17, overcoming Enéas Souza (Relma Team) with a rear-naked choke in the third round. Marreta was dominant from the outset, however, Enéas began mounting a comeback in the second, landing solid strikes. Thiago did regain control of the action though, coming up with the winning submission in the third.
One of the highlights of the event was the presence of Bellator fighter Rodrigo Ratinho (TFT/Pochet), who took on Denilson Silva (BPT) in a match-up underscored by aggressiveness even before the two athletes weighed in.
The two athletes, who butted heads at the Friday weigh-ins, threw down the moment the opening bell had sounded. Ratinho would come out on top, though, winning by technical knockout in the first round, with ground-and-pound from inside the guard.
The middleweight Wendel Negão (Mangueira Team) added another resounding win to his credentials, first breaking Rafael D’Alseco’s nose and then following up with strikes for the TKO in the first round. In the evening’s main event, Alexandre Baixinho beat Argentina’s Fávio Martino in the event’s lone international match-up.
