We love the Japanese people and their culture for many reasons. Martial arts, Godzilla, food, and philosophy are some of the biggest contributions the Japanese have contributed to the world. However, we can’t forget the amazing freak show fights Pride and other Japanese promotions put on during their runs in the mid-1990s to late 2000s. We can thank Japanese MMA’s roots in professional wrestling for the fans’ fascinations with these crazy physical mismatches. While the size difference in several of these fights is significant, the smaller fighters used technique, heart, and courage to overcome the size difference and show the effectiveness of their martial arts and training.
