In parallel with the San Diego Open, last Saturday the IBJJF’s Paris Open was also held. Apart from Adam Wardzinski, who bagged gold both in the heavyweight and open divisions, another name drew people’s attention.
Yan Cabral, a black-belt shaped by Nova União and presently the leader of Aranha Association, did not hold back. A former UFC fighter with some memorable wins in mixed martial arts (such as his 2012 encounter with Kazushi Sakuraba), the master-aged Yan signed up as an adult.
In the middleweight final, he found Japan’s Kenji Sette. After working en garde and coming up, Yan managed to take the back, stabilize and sink a choke. You can watch it play out here:
