Former PRIDE champion Wanderlei Silva is recovering from injuries he sustained when he was hit by a car while on his bike on Wednesday.
In an interview with Brazilian outlet Tribuna, Silva said that he was wearing a helmet during the time of the accident, which occurred in Curitiba. “If I hadn’t been wearing a helmet, I might have died,” he said.
Still, Silva suffered other injuries, including a fractured foot and multiple abrasions on his face. He was released from the hospital after being treated for his wounds. “People have to be more careful in traffic. It’s hard to ride a bike in Curitiba,” he told Tribuna.
The fighter said that the driver who hit him was a “good person,” stopping to help Silva after accidentally crashing into him. Silva also said that other people stopped to assist him as well.
This isn’t the first time Silva has been hit while riding his bike, either. In May 2016, he was the victim of a hit-and-run when he was hit while leaving the gym on his bike.
