After his third consecutive TKO loss, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort announced his next fight would be his last.
And who is he asking to fight to end his more-than 20-year MMA career? None other than the Cult of Personality himself, former WWE Champion CM Punk (aka Phillip Brooks).
It would have to be an interesting fighter, but not a top fighter”, Belfort told FloCombat. “I’ve been fighting good guys before: Dan Henderson, [Chris] Weidman, Dan Henderson, ‘Jacaré’ [Souza], [Gegard] Mousasi and now Kelvin [Gastelum]. These are all hard fights, so if you can book a smoother fight… What’s the name of that guy from WWE? CM Punk would be a good fight. CM Punk, let’s get it on. That would be a really good fight.”
Punk is currently riding is 0-1 MMA career after being dominated in the first round by MMA newcomer, Mickey Gall.
Still, Punk’s name carries quite a bit of fame thanks to his professional wrestling career, and Vitor might just be looking for a big and easy fight to end his MMA journey. Punk might also be looking for redemption after his loss to Gall, and who better to get that redemption from than one of the biggest names in mixed martial arts?
Both fighters therefore have good reasons for wanting this match.
Nothing is official yet, though, so fans can only speculate as to whether Vitor Belfort and CM Punk will have the opportunity to touch gloves in the middle of the octagon.
