The UFC 159 in New Jersey, on April 27 promises great moments. Besides Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen for the light heavyweight belt, and Michael Bisping against Alan Belcher, another awaited battle brings Vinny “Pezão” Magalhaes against his biggest challenge, Phil Davis.
Since the fight was scheduled, the athletes maintained a constant exchange of taunts on Twitter, ranging from criticism of the fighting style to ironic nicknames. In an interview with UFC, Vinny reaffirmed that he sees no threats in Davis’ fighting style.
“He isn’t good on the ground. He thinks he is because he defeated guys who don’t know how to fight on the ground. Moreover, he also can’t fight stranding up. Whenever he gets punched, he rushes to take the opponent down,” said the black belt from Gracie Tijuca.
For Vinny, the greatest weapon of Davis is precisely the key to punish him.
“He is a great wrestler, but I don’t care. Will he bring me down? Ok, take me to my territory. With him on his back, or even if I’m with my back on the ground, I’ll submit him,” said the ADCC 2011 champion over 99kg.
