Vinícius Batista Serra arrested in connection with attack on Rayron Gracie’s mother

Elaine Perez Caparroz, 55, was attacked and beaten in her apartment in Barra da Tijuca (on the West Side of Rio de Janeiro). Vinícius Batista Serra, 27, was arrested during the act on the morning of February 17, 2019. It appears Caparroz, the mother of fighter Rayron Gracie, knew her attacker largely through social media but had met him in person before the incident.

Jiu-Jitsu Times detailed the story. In the article, they explain that reports in the Brazilian media suggest that Serra entered Caparroz’s building by using the name “Felipe” and is now claiming to have had a psychotic blackout.

During his alleged “blackout,” Serra beat, strangled, and bit Caparroz multiple times. Caparroz suffered a broken nose, orbital, and several teeth. The attack was stopped when her screams were heard by other residents of the building.

In the Jiu-Jitsu Times article, Kyra Gracie described the vicious attack. “He bit into her body to force her to let go of his arm to strangle her. She knew that if he got her neck, she would die.” She also explained that Caparroz, despite her ties to the Gracie family, does not train BJJ. She added that Serra, who is a brown belt, is “a person who messes up the image of our sport.”

Lucky, Caparroz’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, as her condition is currently listed as stable.

Kyra Gracie has continued to speak out on this matter, using Instagram to post Serra’s face and images of the brutal damage to her mother. She has also spoken to Tatame.com in an attempt to warn women against meeting individuals they have met online.

Kyra Gracie’s Instagram post is translated below using Google Translate, for those who do not speak Portuguese.

“With a pain in the heart I come to talk to you about this episode of attempted murder … You never think you can get so close to us. It’s a horrible feeling, of tightness in the chest, hands tied … ⠀

Vinicius Batista Serra, a lawyer from Leme, in Rio de Janeiro, brutally assaulted a woman very close to my family in a premeditated manner and attempted feminicide.

A monster!

He was caught red-handed and, as you would expect from every coward, he is claiming a psychotic outbreak so his lawyers can try a milder sentence. In his last testimony he said that he does not remember anything.

Let justice be done and the penalty for such a grotesque crime is hard! Society and justice can no longer allow such psychopaths to remain unpunished and in contact with society. Please share the photo of this show so that everyone knows who he is.

It’s unbelievable to hear from some “what must she have done to him to do that?” What world is that?

Probably this psychopath must have a history of violence against other women. Report it! Step aside and see the cruelty.”

Many are calling this act premeditated attempted murder.
