Many Olympic viewers were disgusted with the behavior of Egyptian judoka, El Shehaby, after his loss to Israeli, Or Sasson, on Friday afternoon.
After winning his match via ippon, Sasson walked up and extended his hand out to El Shehaby, as is the tradition in judo.
Shehaby, however, just continued walking backwards.
Once Sasson realized his opponent was not going to shake his hand, he put his hand up as if to say “Fine with me” and walked away.
El Shehaby continued to pace back and forth along the perimeter of the mat. His behavior was met with boos from the primarily Brazilian audience.
Certain Jewish publications were equally disgusted with the Egyptian.
SussexFriendsIsrael tweeted El Shehaby’s refusal to shake hands was “DISGRACEFUL.”
