When Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson left the UFC in 2018 following his split decision loss to Henry Cejudo, he was widely considered the second best (or even the best, for those that disputed the decision) flyweight MMA fighter on the planet. After leaving the UFC, Johnson went 3-0 in ONE Championship, solidifying his status as one of the greats.
But on Wednesday at ONE on TNT 1, Johnson was brutally finished in his title fight against champion Adriano Moraes. Check out a highlight of that finish below.
Fans unfamiliar with ONE Championship might be shocked to watch the knockout, but don’t worry, knees to the head of a grounded opponent are legal in ONE. With the win, Adriano Moraes becomes the first man to finish Demetrious Johnson in his storied career.
Prior to his 2018 loss to Cejudo, Johnson had won an incredible 13 consecutive UFC bouts, and 12 of them had a belt on the line.
Despite the knockout, Johnson appeared to be in good spirits just minutes later, as the champ and challenger met backstage to exchange pleasantries, and Moraes seemingly agreeing to a rematch if Johnson wants one.
Although he had already won the ONE championship, this was certainly the biggest win of Moraes’ 22-fight career. He won the interim ONE flyweight title in 2016 with a submission win over Tilek Batyrov, and he earned the regular title the next year when he defeated Kairat Akhmetov by decision. Moraes would defend his title once before losing it to Geje Eustaquio in 2018, but regained it in an immediate rematch.
ONE on TNT 1 was the promotion’s on TNT and prime time US television.
