On June 4, 2016 UFC 199 will see undefeated Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt Brian T-City Ortega take on veteran takedown technician Clay The Carpenter Guida. This featherweight matchup has been added to the Los Angeles, California card that currently contains two championship fights; Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman for the middleweight crown and Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber for the bantamweight belt.
Brian T-City Ortega (10-0):
Brian Ortega began training Gracie Jiu-Jitsu at an early age and made a natural transition into MMA. T-City earned his nickname as a result of his affinity for the Triangle choke submission. After winning the RFA title in 2014, Ortega took to the UFC octagon going 2-0-1 and has yet to see to a decision inside the promotion.
In Ortegas last outing, he battled it out with Brazilian brawler Diego Brandao at UFC 195. The GJJ black belt endured his opponents early agro energy to ultimately win by securing a patented T-City triangle in the third round. Rener Gracie and Brian Ortega did a Locker Room Gracie Breakdown of the bout that can be seen here:
Clay the Carpenter Guida (32-16, UFC: 12-10):
T-Citys upcoming opponent is a seasoned veteran with over 48 professional MMA bouts; almost half of them taking place under the UFC promotion. Guidas pressuring style, frenetic pace, and sizeable gas tank have been plaguing the UFC for about a decade as ‘the Carpenter’ made his promotional debut in 2006. Notable wins for Clay Guida include Nate Diaz, Anthony Pettis, and current UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. Check out some highlights from ‘the Carpenter’:
Clay Guidas well roundedness and veteran savy will pose as a solid measuring stick for the MMA skillset of the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt. Will Brian T-City Ortega continue on with his winning ways and force his competitor Clay the Carpenter Guida to wave the white flag? Find out on June 4, 2016 at UFC 199!
