Takeya Mizugaki, a former bantamweight contender for both the UFC and WEC, has retired from MMA after a long and successful career, according to Japanese MMA news outlet MMA Planet.
Mizugaki finished up his career, which spanned over fifteen years, with a record of 23–14–2. He competed first for the WEC, which was later absorbed by the UFC. He then fought for the UFC over a dozen times from 2011 to 2016. He was a top UFC bantamweight contender, though he didn’t win any titles for either the UFC or the WEC. He squared up with some of the best fighters in the promotion, though, including Urijah Faber and Cody Garbrandt. The last fight of his career was in August of last year.
Mizugaki retweeted the news about his retirement, saying, “Thank you very much! It was the best!”
