UFC female bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey woke up early this Friday.
She had a brief appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America to announce her next challenge in the cage.
Despite expectations, Rousey’s next opponent will be former boxing star Holly Holm instead of bitter rival Miesha Tate.
The announcement contradicts prior statements by UFC President, Dana White, who said Tate would face the winner of the Rousey vs. Correia fight, the main event of UFC 190.
On GMA, Rousey said what she expects of the fight against Holm: “She’s definitely my biggest challenge to date, so I’m super excited about it.”
Rousey took her time to complement her adversary: “Holly’s the type that is ready to go 12 boxing rounds. She’s not the average chick that I fight. She’s the best striker I’ve ever fought, and striking is something I learned much later in my career. So I don’t ever expect fights to be easy and fast. No one knows exactly how the fights are going to go, and that’s why everybody buys them.”
Rousey vs. Holm will the main event of UFC 195, on Jan. 2, at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, NV.
