Every fighter who asked Dana White to “send location” for the much-discussed “Fight Island” now has their answer.
Contrary to earlier suggestions that the island would be a “private island,” with the mission being to provide a fight space that wouldn’t be affected by visa issues or COVID-19 restrictions, Fight Island will actually be located on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Yas Island is a tourist hot spot in the United Arab Emirates with attractions that include Ferrari World and the Yas Marina Circuit. It technically meets the definition of an island, but likely doesn’t fit the mental image many fans had in mind following all the hype.
The UFC also shared the first four dates to expect fights: July 11, 15, 18, and 25.
The first card on Yas Island, taking place on July 11, will feature three title fights, with Gilbert Burns fighting again after defeating Tyron Woodley on May 30. Burns will take on current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in the main event of the evening. Max Holloway and current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will have a rematch in the co-main event, and Petr Yan and Jose Aldo will face off for the recently vacant bantamweight title.
