Mick Maynard, top matchmaker for the UFC and former head of Legacy FC, landed his promotion to black belt this weekend. Renzo Gracie himself handed over the honor at his New York City location.
Maynard began his career in martial arts as a striker and kickboxer. His 15-year journey in jiu-jitsu was initially about maintaining, he explained to journalist Eric Kowal, a way to keep from being relentlessly tapped out during training sessions with other mixed martial artists. Maynard now calls BJJ a passion and trains out of Houston, TX. He was made VP of Talent Relations for the UFC in 2016.
