UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has revealed that he’ll soon be putting out a children’s book that he hopes will teach young readers about the positive aspects of MMA and the people involved in it.
The Australian father and fighter told 7 News Australia that he plans on releasing the illustrated book before July 12, when he’ll defend his title against Max Holloway at UFC 251 on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island.
Though details about the book are fairly sparse, Volkanovski told the news outlet that the book will be about him and portray MMA in a positive light for children. “The direction of the book is about being a world champion and everything about it… This is a story about my journey in a storybook type of way.”
Volkanovski referred to some of Conor McGregor’s infamous incidents when speaking about his desire to create a book that showed children that not all MMA fighters are “mugs.”
“We aren’t all mugs that want to chuck dollies at buses, that want to hit old men, and that’s what hits the media,” he told 7 News. “I think this is a good way to show that we’re not all like that. Some of the most respectful people I know are fighters. Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met [are] through this sport but you don’t really get to see that. [MMA is] all about honor, respect.”
The title of the book is yet to be released publicly, but keep an eye out for this story, and make sure you’re watching when Volkanovksi takes on Max Holloway on July 12.
