UFC 115: Franklin knocks out Liddell and Cro Cop gets tapout

This Saturday’s UFC 115 event in Canada featured a number of great bouts. In the evening’s main event, Rich Franklin put on an electrifying performance in overcoming Chuck Liddell. Earlier on Cro Cop showed his Jiu-Jitsu is up to speed. In the co-main event Martin Kampmann overcame Paulo Thiago. Check out how it all went:

Chuck Liddell vs Rich Franklin

The bout between former UFC champions Rich Franklin and Chuck Liddell was an all out war. In just one round both landed powerful strikes and found themselves in sticky situations. Liddell was getting the better of the exchange, having landed solid punches and gotten the take down. Frankin felt his arm break and probably would have had to abandon the fight during the between-round break.

However, before the end of the first round, after eating an elbow from the Mohican, who launched a haphazard attack, Franklin landed a powerful cross. Liddell, in probably his last UFC appearance, hit the canvas and took further punishment with just five seconds remaining in the round.

Pat Barry vs Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic

Pat Barry paid a steep price for taking on seasoned veteran Mirko Cro Cop. Barry landed two knockdowns within the first round, but didn’t go for the finish. He let the fight play out on the feet. Cro Cro Cop went on to find his feet in the second round, when he showed how his Jiu-Jitsu has evolved by making it to the mount and then back mount.
In the final round Cro Cop also showed how his superior physical conditioning, launching a standup onslaught. After battering Barry with blows the Croatian slid to his opponent’s back and finished up with a rear-naked choke. After the affair had ended a content Dana White grabbed the microphone and announced the choke would yield Mirko the bonus for submission of the night.

Martin Kampmann vs Paulo Thiago

Accompanied by Randy Couture, Denmark’s Martin Kampmann dominated his three-round affair with Paulo Thiago. He had the edge both standing and on the ground. He caught the Brazilian by the neck with a guillotine choke and then arm-and-neck choke, and landed solid strikes on the feet. In the end Martin took the unanimous-decision win.
