Brazillian MMA fighter and BJJ practitioner Monique Bastos was on her way to Jiu-Jitsu training when she was attacked by two men. She managed to lock one in the triangle chole while other people took care of another one. This is a good reminder how effective Jiu jitsu can be in a real-life situation. These situations are now more common than ever this is why all women should learn some form of self-defense.
Jiu-Jitsu as self defense
BJJ like many other martial arts is male-dominated and there is a common perception that women do not enjoy grappling. However, BJJ is a great martial art for women and there are many reasons to start with this “gentle art”.
Usually, number number-one reason for women to train jiu jitsu is “because it teaches you how to protect yourself.” This is true because jiu jitsu is designed for weaker, smaller opponents to dominate larger ones using technique rather than strength. With BJJ your strength and endurance will grow and also more important you will learn how to get out of difficult situations. Also, jiu jitsu can offer you much more than self-defense. You can get into the shape, find new friends and the most important have fun.
