Truck drivers’ strike delays Gramado International Pro, more

The truck drivers’ strike which has been wreaking havoc in traffic across many roads in Brazil, and interfering with the distribution of goods like food and gas, has caused the postponement of X-Combat World Cup BJJ Pro, an event initially slated to take place next Saturday in Vitória, Espírito Santo.

“The strike kept us from arriving at the event with our structure,” said X-Combat organizer Paulo Jesus. “Even after multiple attempts at negotiation, we were not granted passage. We also received messages from teams that were coming from other states alerting to the difficulty they would have traveling due to the issue of the lack of fuel. We have an estimate that around 60 percent of participants would be coming from out of state, which would cause a big number of walkovers in the competition. Therefore, our decision was to postpone to July 29th, also in Vitória.”

Truckers strike causes postponement of the Gramado International Pro

The Federação Brasileira de Jiu-Jitsu (FBJJ), the UAEJJF and the City of Gramado regret to inform that the truckers strike in Brazil, launched on Monday, May 21, has caused the postponement of the Gramado International Pro, scheduled May 26-27, in Gramado, state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The strike has caused shortage of fuel and many other products in most of the country. The Gramado Mayor’s Office declared this Thursday, May 24, the city in a state of public calamity until further notice. With the safety and comfort of its competitors in mind, the FBJJ, the UAEJJF and the City decided to postpone the event until the situation in Brazil has returned to normal.

A new date in the months to come will be announced shortly and all athletes registered in the event will have their registrations honored. The FBJJ and the UAEJJF also inform that those competitors not able to participate in the new date will receive a full refund.
