Undefeated Lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov will finally be getting his shot at some UFC gold.
Khabib will be taking on Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson at UFC 223 on April 7.
The news was announced by UFC President Dana White on the Toucher and Rich show:
Dana White on our show confirmed that Khabib vs. Ferguson is indeed on for UFC 223 in Brooklyn. #UFC

It is not known yet if this fight will be for the interim title or if the UFC will strip reigning Champion Conor McGregor of his belt and have Tony and Khabib fight for the title. White has already threatened to strip Conor of his title if he doesn’t defend soon.
However, if Conor is stripped, White said he will get the first shot at the title when and if he returns:
Love Conor, respect Conor, love everything that he’s done for this company. Everybody knows that. I say it all the time. The belt would have to move on. You do Khabib vs. Tony; we’re working on that fight now. If and when Conor comes back, he would get the first crack at the title.
Conor has not fought in the UFC since 2016. Though he has been a UFC Champion since 2015, he never defended any of his titles.
