The co-main event for last night’s UFC Fight Night: Sioux Falls was a highly entertaining affair between the UFC’s #3 lightweight Tony Ferguson and short notice debutante Landon Vannata. The bout was a back and forth saga as Vannatta nearly finished Ferguson after dropping the top 5 lightweight with a head kick in the first round.
Ferguson looked well-recovered to start the second stanza where Vannata looked rather fatigued from trying to finish in the first. Tony Ferguson grabbed a hold of a standing guillotine choke and masterfully shifted right into a standing D’arce. Ferguson pulled Vannata to the canvas where he began to tighten up the choke leaving his opponent with two options… tap or nap.
The UFC’s #3 lightweight earned the submission victory at 2:22 of the second round. With Tony Ferguson winning eight straight and achieving his 3rd D’arce submission inside of the UFC, look for this exciting lightweight to move to the front of the line to challenge for the belt.
