Two weeks after revealing that the USADA had discovered an “adverse finding” in his urine sample from a January urine sample, ESPN reports that former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw has accepted a two-year suspension.
After Dillashaw was informed of the failed test last month, he released a statement saying that he would be voluntarily vacating the bantamweight title position. Dillashaw had also attempted to claim the flyweight title from Henry Cejudo at UFC Fight Night 143 in January, but was defeated in the first round. The urine sample collected from the day before this fight was found to contain recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO), which USADA describes as “a synthetic hormone used to stimulate the body’s production of red blood cells, thereby increasing oxygen transport and aerobic power.”
Dillashaw’s suspension begins retroactively from the day the sample was collected, meaning that he’ll be eligible to fight again starting on January 18, 2021.
