UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor made MMA history at UFC 194 when he defeated then champion Jose Aldo in a mere thirteen seconds to win the championship. Earlier today UFC On Fox: Rafael Dos Anjos defeated Donald Cerrone in 66 seconds by TKO. This would set the stage for a potential Rafael Dos Anjos vs Conor McGregor superfight in 2016.
Rafael Dos Anjos Calls out Conor McGregor at the octagon interview:
Conor’s coach Kavanagh Told the42: “The Notorious” will fight either Cerrone or dos Anjos in April, and tells an impatient Frankie Edgar to wait his turn.”
“We believe that’ll be in April but I’m looking forward to this weekend’s fight too. I’ll be watching eagerly to see who it is. I’m expecting a close fight but if I was to bet–which I won’t–I’d say Rafael dos Anjos will win it. If Frankie Edgar wants a shot at the featherweight title or Aldo wants a rematch, we’re fine with that too. But they’ll have to wait, because that lightweight belt is next on the agenda.”
McGregor has already stated his desire to move up to the lightweight division and UFC President Dana White said he would be granted an immediate title shot if he does. This has caused a little bit of unrest in top contender Frankie Edgar’s camp, because he is next in line to challenge McGregor for the featherweight strap. McGregor may be the featherweight king at the moment, but if he has everything his way, he will be a two division king in 2016.
