Fans of competitive Brazilian jiu-jitsu are about to be treated to the rematch they have all been waiting for. Roger Gracie will be taking on Marcus Almeida “Buchecha” at Gracie Pro 2017 on July 23.
Only hours ago, Gracie posted an Instagram announcing the fight.
Roger Gracie is not only a multiple-time gold medalist in various BJJ tournaments, but an accomplished MMA fighter who currently reigns atop the light heavyweight division in the Asian mixed martial arts promotion, ONE Championship. Gracie is the grandson of late 10th degree red belt, Carlos Gracie, one of the men who helped create the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
As impressive as Gracie’s skills must be, they are going to be put to the test again when he steps on the mats against Almeida. The cute name might make him oddly unintimidating —Buchecha, means “big cheeks” in Portuguese — but make no mistake about it; Almeida is a beast! In fact, according to BJJ Heroes, he is not only considered one of the greatest grapplers of his generation, but perhaps the greatest grappler of all time.
He also has some great footwork. Just ask Mackenzie Dern.
For those of you who missed their first match back at Metamoris, you can check it out in it’s entirety here below.
Will history repeat itself?
